Place Description

The closest beach you’ll ever get to while being in Kansas, Wescoe Beach, located on the north side of Wescoe Hall and at the heart of Jayhawk Boulevard. The University of Kansas website states that Wescoe Hall was built in 1974, and ever since, this place has been known for its popularity.

Ginkgo trees stand tall nearby, with the fruit-like structures falling to the ground and getting stepped on by anyone who passes. The smell is very distinct but, despite the foul odor, a variety of fragrances from students fill the air around.

Students park themselves on the rough concrete blocks, studying for the next final to come. Organizations are setting up their tables for the day doing everything to not get blown away and cars drive by slowing to look at what the commotion might be.

Some days you’ll come across political protests, religious groups, greek life, vintage clothing events and more. Any day of the week, any season and any time of the day, there’s constant traffic throughout.

All the way from political altercations to shoving pie into someone’s face for a good cause, this place has it all. Crowds gather, leaves fall wistfully to the ground and students bolt to their 9 a.m. classes. It is the perfect place to watch the campus’ scenic beauty.
